Big-board strategy

Bigger boards open up the game enormously. There are more places to attack, more lines to defend, and you can build up multiple threats at once. The "win condition" is still small (four in a row), so the strategy becomes about controlling regions of the board.

  • Start near the center. Central cells are part of more potential winning lines.
  • Build "open threes." Three in a row with both ends open is unblockable — your opponent can only block one side.
  • Watch for forks. Set up positions where you can make two open threats on your next move.
  • Block dangerous twos. A "two in a row" with both ends open is just as dangerous as an open three.
